We are delighted to announce that Sam Johnson has now officially joined the team here at Total Excellence Centre. Sam has been working very closely with us on a number of training initiatives over the last 18 months, with fantastic feedback.
Sam will head up the Equality and Diversity team and brings with him over 15 years of experience as a diversity practitioner and trainer who is well respected and recognised within the field of equality and diversity at local, national and international level.
Prior to entering the world of consultancy Sam worked at South Wales Police Headquarters where as Head of Equality and Diversity & Senior Policy Advisor he held responsibilities for the delivery of race and diversity and equality policies, the delivery of programmes’ relating to the modernisation of the police service, promoting the coherence of policymaking on race equality and diversity across the service and for developing systems to mainstream race equality and diversity in all aspects of the force in relation to internal and external service delivery.
Sam was also Research Scientist and was based at the Scarman Centre at the University of Leicester. Here he was responsible for the design and implementation of research tools and methodologies to Evaluate Community Race Relations and Diversity training rolled out to the police forces of England and Wales as a result of the recommendations contained within the Stephen Lawrence Enquiry Report Macpherson (1999). The subsequent report he produced was published and responsible for developing, mainstreaming and implementing equality and diversity, confidence and communication strategies within Police Services in the UK.
During the research for the report he undertook and observed in excess of 400 training programmes which focused on equality in service delivery particularly in the area of race and diversity throughout the country.
He has vast research experience and has a proven track record as an effective change agent for strategic management teams, with his research cited in publications such as Policing Race and Racism by Dr. Michael Rowe (2004).
